My work ‘Thinking About Tomorrow’ was selected for an ACME Moving Image Commission as part of
‘Day One’, the opening festivities for Lewisham, London Borough of Culture.

‘Thinking About Tomorrow’, will be projected on the outside of ACME Childers Street, along with the work of James Ireland and Caitlin Yardley.
‘Thinking about Tomorrow’ is an edit combining material from several film projects including work made for the MERU ART SCIENCE award 2015 and an Inspiral London ACE funded commission in 2018. The film features members of the Inspiral London artists collective, including several ACME artists. Inspiral London is an artists walking project creating an anti-clockwise spiral walk from the centre of London to Gravesend, passing through Lewisham on the way.
The magic lantern slide, featured in the film, belonged to my great grandfather who was based in South East London, got married in Deptford and lived and showed these magic lantern slides in and around New Cross. The opening shot features the Southwark Park Gallery, which is in a neighbouring borough and where I regularly exhibit as a memebr of the Bermondsey Artists Group – ‘Thinking About Tomorrow’ was first exhibited there. The film is a celebration of living on the ground and working collectively to create something magical.

To mark the start of Lewisham’s Borough of Culture year we will be projecting artists work on to the exterior of Childers Street at the Rolt Street end of the building on
the evening of Friday 28th January.
This month marks the opening of the Lewisham Borough of Culture year and also the end of our current research partnership with UCL. In celebration of the artists working in our Childers Street building we are inviting all Acme artists to join us at Childers Street on Friday 28 January.
We will experience digital projections on the exterior of the building featuring commissioned moving image works by James Ireland, Sarah Sparkes and Caitlin Yardley, alongside artwork stills and portraits of Childers Street artists in their studios. The park café hölne around the corner in Folkestone gardens will also be open for drinks and nibbles from 6pm.
DAY ONE
A joyous opening celebration spanning the whole borough to kick off the first day of We Are Lewisham.
Day One of Lewisham’s year as the Mayor of London’s Borough of Culture 2022 officially kicks off on 28 January. You are invited to get involved, no matter where you are.
Day One will present a flavour of the exciting year ahead – a year that is only possible due the fantastic energy and creativity of Lewisham residents. Look out for culture on your doorstep – with outdoor performances and events popping up across the day. There are creative challenges to get stuck into and the chance to connect online – bringing people together whatever the circumstances
