Artist's statement:

"I paint about returning, returning as an observer to places imprinted within my memory. These places were discovered when walking on my own and were charged with some profound meaning that escaped definition.

In the rendering of my work certain structures integral to the scene are left as painted outlines, the primed ground within these remaining exposed. The rest of the surface is painted as an illusion around these ghostly cut-outs by driping and almost weaving with the viscose impasto paint. The outlined structures are to me like time machines permanently wavering between arriving or departing.

The intimate scale of the work engenders a solitude through which the viewer can participate in this private world."
